The Open Pits Department at Northern Star Resources currently has opportunities for experienced Proficiency Trainers to join the team, working across our Open Pit Operations on a FIFO 8/6 roster out of Perth.
Reporting to the Training Superintendent these business-critical roles are responsible for delivering practical and theoretical training to mining equipment operators, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive operation of hydraulic excavators and electric/diesel-powered shovels. The trainer will assess, coach, and certify operators to meet site operational and safety standards.

- Conduct hands-on training and assessment for excavator and shovel operators in accordance with OEM specifications and site procedures.
- Evaluate operator skill levels, identify training needs, and develop individualized training plans.
- Deliver classroom instruction on equipment operation, safety protocols, productivity techniques, and best practices.
- Ensure all training activities comply with company policies, statutory regulations, and mine safety standards.
- Maintain accurate training records, including logbooks, certifications, and competency evaluations.
- Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to align training with operational requirements and equipment availability.
- Participate in incident investigations involving equipment to identify training gaps.
- Assist in the development and revision of training materials, SOPs, and operator checklists.
- Monitor equipment usage data and provide feedback to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Hold a Certificate IV - Training & Assessment, as a minimum.
- Extensive experience (five to eight years) operating production excavators and shovels (e.g., Komatsu PC4000, Hitachi EX5600, CAT 6060, etc.) is key to the success of these positions.
- A Technical or Trade qualification will be highly regarded, as would a qualification in Health & Safety.
- Proven experience in training or supervisory roles within an operational mining environment.
- Strong knowledge of mining safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and productivity principles.
- A sound working knowledge & understanding of Mines Safety & Inspection Legislation and statutory training/assessment requirements.
- Exposure to the development and implementation of companywide training programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with Training Management and Data Reporting Systems e.g. INX InTuition and Power BI.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
