Northern Star Resources has an opportunity for an experienced Injury Management Advisor to join the team at our Subiaco Head Office, on an initial 18-month-maternity-leave-contract.

Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent - Health, you will support the business, ensuring the health of all workers through proactive injury management, the facilitation of workers compensation processes and the championing of general health and wellbeing strategies across NSR.

  • Visibly drive, develop & champion a positive health & safety culture across the business, displaying a genuine passion for all facets of health, safety & wellbeing, and a clear commitment to mitigating injury or harm to all Northern Star personnel.
  • Day to day case management for injured workers, including challenging & complex cases, as well as undertaking case reviews with insurers & other relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee the management of workplace injuries and workers compensation by regularly liaising with the applicable injury management contractor, treating practitioners, the external rehabilitation provider and insurers.
  • Continually review injury case trends and injury management processes, with the aim of lowering insurance premiums and improving business outcomes wherever possible.
  • Provide coaching, training and advice to junior team members and other personnel on injury management processes, workers compensation legislation and injury prevention strategies.
  • Lead consultation and manage contractor relationships with preferred external rehab & medical providers.
  • Facilitate return to work programs for employees and provide advice on injury, health and medical matters to all levels of operations personnel.
  • Coordinate clinical interventions and provide recommendation as required.
  • Develop and implement pro-active injury management and rehabilitation strategies alongside relevant internal/external stakeholders to achieve desired fitness for work outcomes;
  • Review medical reports to assess workers’ fitness for work capacity in accordance with the requirements of their job role using a risk-based approach.

With extensive experience (7+ years) in a similar occupational health or injury management role within the resources sector, you possess a genuine passion & commitment for creating a work environment that prioritises the wellbeing of its most important asset, its people.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Extensive experience (seven plus years) in occupational health / injury management, preferably within the mining industry or at a remote community.
  • Hold a qualification in Allied Health (Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology), Occupational Health, Nursing or Paramedicine.
  • Possess a sound understanding and working knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation and the Injury Management Act 2023.
  • Previous demonstrated experience in workplace rehabilitation, claims management or employer-based injury management roles.
  • Hold an Injury Manager or a Return-to-Work Coordinator Certificate.
  • A sound working knowledge & understanding of Fitness for Work requirements, Ergonomics, Workers Compensation and Occupational Health Rehabilitation Services, as well as holding a Certificate IV in Work, Health & Safety would be highly regarded.
  • Solid computer literacy across the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as relevant safety and injury management systems & proficiency using INX modules or equivalent.
