The Opportunity?

 

Northern Star has a rewarding opportunity for an Environmental Approvals Specialist or Senior Environmental Approvals Specialist. Reporting to the Principal Environmental Advisor and based in our Subiaco Head Office with occasional site travel.

 

The position will provide support managing environmental approvals for our Australian operations. You will be supported by an experienced team and will be responsible for the development of approval applications and facilitating compliance with our legal obligations.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Assist in the coordination of environmental approvals to ensure operational continuity of Northern Star’s Australian operations.
  • Prepare and review environmental approval applications, including Mining Proposals, Mine Closure Plans, Works Approvals, Native Vegetation Clearing Permits and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) referrals.
  • Champion environmental approvals processes and other environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Provide support to internal stakeholders, including site teams, to ensure compliance with environmental approvals and statutory obligations is maintained.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, including Government regulators, other landholders, and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical studies required to support environmental approvals applications.
  • Participate in sustainability and business improvements projects.
  • This role will be based in Northern Star’s Corporate office in Subiaco with site occasional site travel.


The following will see you set for success in this role:

 

  • Tertiary Qualification in an Environment related field 
  • Demonstrable experience (3 - 8 years) within a similar role in the mining or resources sector.
  • Strong understanding of environment, mining and heritage legislation in WA.
  • Experience with GIS, preferably ArcGIS Pro.
  • Knowledge of EMS, technical programmes, data systems and databases 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative & functional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, with the ability to multitask effectively, in a dynamic & outcome focused environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • WA “C” Class Drivers Licence
