The Open Pits Department at NSR currently has a newly created opportunity for a highly experienced Safety & Training Manager to join the team, working at our Subiaco based Corporate Office, on a permanent and full-time basis.
Reporting to the General Manager – Open Pits, this key senior role will oversee the set-up of all management plans, training proficiency & HSEQ across the department, ensuring the developed approach is scalable, maintainable & replicable. Once operating, the focus will shift to improving, supporting & communicating compliance to WHS Acts & Regulations, and improving capability on NSR’s open pit projects.

- Continue the development and proactive use of the Safety Management System (SMS)
- Apply a risk based appraoch to lead the development and implementation of fit for purpose systems, processes and controls for the OPEN PITS department
- Provide continuous support, guidance and direction to personnel and contractors for all safety requirements
- Work strategically with internal stakeholders to ensure workforce and systems are in place aligned to contract timing.
- Develop sound partnerships with contractor safety personnel
- Actively participate in major project planning to ensure safety plans reflect the completeness and integrity required
To thrive in this role.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Hold a recognised Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline
- Ideally be Lead Auditor accredited, with a Diploma in OHS & a Certificate 4 in Training & Assessment.
- Possess a sound understanding of barrier/failed defence type risk management processes (iCAM/ Bow Tie).
- Demonstrated experience in leading the development and implementation of Safety Management Systems on site.
- Possess strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills and be able to demonstrate your ability to provide safety support to leaders to enable movement beyond compliance.
- Ability to lead Health, Safety and Training teams in a dynamic environment.
- Hold a tertiary qualification in Health and Safety or a related field
- Have a thorough understanding of the operational training requirements that support the mining operations.
- Demonstrated experience in open pit mine operations
- Sound knowledge of The Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and The Work Health Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.
