The Opportunity?

 

Northern Star has a newly created opportunity for an experienced senior planning professional to join our Technical Services Department in the role of Planning Lead - Assets. Reporting to the Group Manager - Assets, this key position will ensure consistent & efficient execution of maintenance works required for the optimal operation of critical processing plants & equipment across all NSR’s processing facilities.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Assist with the development & implementation of effective planning strategies to ensure optimal utilisation of resources and efficient shutdown & day-to-day execution.
  • Support site teams in creating & maintaining detailed Shutdown schedules, ensuring all tasks are appropriately allocated & deadlines are met.
  • Assist with planning and allocate resources effectively, ensuring all shutdowns have the necessary resources, equipment & materials.
  • Peer review the shutdown plans for all sites, identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Analyse shutdown data to track progress, identify bottlenecks & recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve planning processes, incorporating feedback & best practices.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure plans are realistic, achievable & aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess progress & ensure adherence to shutdown procedures.
  • Train & mentor team members on best practices related to shut down & day planning activities.
  • Custodian of shutdown calendar for all sites.

 

About you?

 

With extensive (5+ years) experience in a similar lead, planning role, your career within Electrical, Mechanical or Reliability Engineering has been resources focused, ideally with some exposure to gold mining. Your leadership experience has given you the ability to think ‘big picture’ and you genuinely enjoy mentoring & coaching your team to consistently deliver or exceed industry best practice across their remit.

 

The following will also see you set for success in this role:

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Reliability Engineering is preferred, however we would also consider a strong candidate from a trade background, who has relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in a similar lead role, within the mining industry (ideally gold).
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively, as well as drive & manage change through the organisation.
  • Excellent communication & people skills, with the ability to engage with & influence across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, with proficiency in Pronto Work Management Systems, as well as the MS Office Suite.
  • Possess a sound working knowledge of shutdown & day planning best practices & principles.
  • Innovative in thought, with an agile mindset, you possess strong analytical & problem-solving skills and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexible & adaptable to changing priorities, you are well organised, have strong time management skills and multitask effectively & seamlessly
