About the opportunities

  1. Western Australia Site - 8/6 roster – 12HR day – 6 Months fixed term contract with possibility of extension
  2. Northern Territory site - 16/12 roster – 12HR day & Night – 3 Months fixed tern contract with possibility of extension

The Role

Reporting to the Geology Technical Supervisor, your primary focus as an Geology Field Technician, will be to work in the field and provide assistance within the geology department in a safe and efficient manner, and in compliance with all statutory and Northern Star standard requirements.

You will be required to actively contribute towards achieving the Company’s vision by demonstrating a clear commitment to the STARR core values.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sample and collect data from Reverse Circulation, Aircore drillholes, including but not limited to:
  • Surveying drillhole locations or grid lines using a GPS.
  • Assisting with the preparation of drill sites.
  • Sampling and data collection as directed by the Senior Geological Technician or supervising geologist.
  • Pick up of drillhole collar coordinates using a differential DGPS.
  • Assisting with the rehabilitation of drill sites.
  • Pre-starts on Mobile and fixed plant machinery daily
  • Process, sample and collect data from diamond drill core, including but not limited to:
  • Collecting core trays from drill sites when required
  • Marking out drill core: metre and orientation mark-up.
  • Collection of geological data (e.g., Recovery, RQD, Specific Gravity, Magnetic Susceptibility, XRF, ASD).
  • Data entry
  • Photographing of core trays.
  • Sawing of drill core and collection of samples as directed by the supervising geologist.
  • Drill core storage and retrieval.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Field Assistant (Desirable but not essential)
  • Current approved and recognised forklift ticket (Mandatory).
  • Computer literacy with the ability to use Microsoft office products.
  • Excellent numeracy skills.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to plan daily activities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as required.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • St Johns Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
  • 4WD operation and recovery skills (Mandatory).
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
