The Open Pits Department at NSR currently has newly created opportunities for experienced Business Analysts to join the team, working at our Subiaco based Corporate Office, on a permanent and full-time basis.

Reporting to the General Manager – Open Pits, these opportunities are responsible for analysing operational data, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting strategic decision-making across open pit operations. This role bridges the gap between operational teams and management, using data-driven insights to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and optimise mining processes.

Here is what awaits you.

  • Collect, analyse, and interpret data from surface mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and ore processing.
  • Develop performance dashboards and reports to track KPIs such as equipment utilization, cycle times, fuel consumption, and cost per tonne.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of production variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and planning teams to identify and prioritize business improvement initiatives.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control processes by providing relevant data and financial analysis.
  • Evaluate the economic viability of new projects, technologies, or process changes through cost-benefit analysis.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for senior management to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in implementing digital tools and systems for data capture, analytics, and reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with operational plans and recommend adjustments based on performance data.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Business, Economics, or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a mining environment, preferably in a business analysis or improvement role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with advanced Excel and data visualization skills (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Proficiency in mining software and systems (e.g., MineSight, Vulcan, Surpac, or fleet management systems like Wenco, Modular, or MineStar).
  • Familiarity with budgeting and cost accounting principles within a mining environment.
  • Highly regarded, would be experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies, knowledge of ESG metrics and reporting in mining operations, and programming or scripting skills (Python, SQL) for data analysis.
