The Open Pits Department at NSR currently has a newly created opportunity for a highly experienced Asset Manager to join the team, working at our Subiaco based Corporate Office, on a permanent and full-time basis.

Reporting to the General Manager – Open Pits, this key senior opportunity is responsible for the effective management, planning, optimisation, and lifecycle tracking of all heavy mining equipment assets across NSR Open Pit Mining Operations. This role ensures maximum availability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of equipment while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Asset Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement asset management strategies for heavy mining equipment (HME), including haul trucks, excavators, dozers, loaders, and drills.
  • Oversee lifecycle management, including acquisition, commissioning, utilization, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Prepare annual budgets and long-term capital plans for equipment fleets.

Fleet Performance & Optimization

  • Monitor equipment utilization, performance, downtime, and costs using data analytics and fleet management systems.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment availability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards and internal KPIs.
  • Act as the key escalation point for operational equipment issues, including overloads, haul road condition, and operator abuse alarms, ensuring they are escalated to the appropriate operational teams for investigation and management

Maintenance & Reliability Coordination

  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is serviced and maintained according to OEM guidelines and operational needs.
  • Coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to minimize unscheduled downtime.
  • Support root cause analysis and reliability-centred maintenance efforts.
  • Review and approve risk-assessed maintenance strategies that deviate from OEM baselines were justified, ensuring they deliver improved lifecycle value and reduced cost per hour while maintaining safety and compliance standards.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Work with procurement and supply chain teams to source equipment, parts, and service contracts.
  • Manage relationships with OEMs, equipment dealers, and service providers.
  • Review equipment specifications and make recommendations for procurement or replacement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and governance lead for strategic maintenance and asset management suppliers, ensuring their plans, rebuild schedules, and services align with company strategies and standards.
  • Review supplier performance against contract KPIs and SLAs, validate compliance to technical scope, and provide final sign-off on any back chargeable costs, including damage claims or contractually recoverable costs.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all HME is operated and maintained in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Support audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate asset records, maintenance history, and cost data in CMMS and ERP systems.
  • Generate regular reports on equipment health, costs, utilization, and forecasts for senior management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Hold a Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Asset Management, or a relevant equivalent.
  • Certification in Asset Management (e.g., IAM, ISO 55000) is desirable.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in asset or fleet management, preferably within the mining or heavy equipment industry.
  • Strong understanding of mining equipment operation, maintenance, and lifecycle costing.
  • Proficiency in asset management software, CMMS (e.g., SAP, Pronto), and fleet monitoring systems.
  • Technical knowledge & expertise of HME.
  • Cost and performance optimisation.
  • Safety and compliance awareness.
