Northern Star Resources currently has an opportunity for a Senior Geologist to join our team at Bannockburn Open Pit, part of the wider Thunderbox Operations.

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, you will lead the Bannockburn open pit Geology team, overseeing production geology, grade control, geological interpretation, modelling and reconciliation to support the safe and efficient delivery of ore. Working closely with Mining, Survey, Metallurgy and other operational teams, you will drive strong geological outcomes while fostering a culture of safety, collaboration and excellence.

What you can look forward to: 

• Mentor and upskill Project Geologists, Mine Geologists, Graduate Geologists and Geological Technicians, while encouraging continuous improvement and ownership across the team. 
• Promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration within Mine Geology and across multidisciplinary operational teams. 
• Coordinate grade control drill programs to ensure accurate targeting, designs, tracking and scheduling aligned with short and long-term mine plans, while providing direction to drilling contractors and ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained.  
• Manage high-quality grade control and production geology processes to support safe and efficient ore extraction in line with production plans. 
• Ensure geological data is collected, validated and stored in a consistent manner aligned with company standards, while maintaining accurate grade control models and tracking systems. 
• Lead site EOM and ROM reconciliation, investigate production variances and maintain oversight of material movements, stockpiles and ore tracking in collaboration with Mining, Survey and Metallurgy. 

Where you’ll add value:

• Safety standard bearer: Stand for and proactively pursue our number one STARR action: Safety, while providing leadership and guidance to the broader Geology team.
• 5+ years of experience as a geologist in the resource industry, preferably within an open pit gold mining operation. 
• A proven track record in leading geology teams and production geology processes within an open pit environment.
• A strong understanding of open pit production geology, grade control, geological interpretation and ore control.
• A proactive, solutions-driven approach to grade control, geological modelling, production performance and ore reconciliation.
• Sound working knowledge of geological databases and modelling software (e.g. Datamine, Leapfrog, MPX and Acquire).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary operational teams.

Qualifications:

• A tertiary qualification (minimum degree) in Geology 
• Current unrestricted WA C Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
