About our role
Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Registered Occupational Health Nurse to ensure the health of employees and contractors through, the delivery of professional health and medical services. This position is based at our Jundee Operations on a permanent basis. 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth.
Here’s what awaits you:
- Provide emergency and non-emergency assistance and medical care to the site.
- Assist in managing the sites processes in relation to medical emergency preparedness.
- Ensuring medical support to operation 24/7 when needed in the remote mine site for night shifts events medical treatments and response.
- Provide relevant medical training and coaching to members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), H&S team members, site departments for tool box topics and for patients.
- Injury Management Monitoring for Employees and Contractors.
- Pre placement medical assessments
- Support for health hygiene management plan compliance activities including completion of Occupational health activities e.g. fit testing, audiometric testing (when qualified), Similar Exposure Group (SEG monitoring) mapping accuracy for roles, exceedance investigation support, vaccinations status monitoring, Silica Health Monitoring scheduling, Heavy Metals testing scheduling and compliance tracking for completion across site, opportunity for Statutory positions (as applicable) for Noise and Air Quality
- Work with Contract providers for H&S team as required.
- Health promotion and education onsite
- Working along side H&S team including Emergency Services Coordinators, H&S Advisor, H&S Coordinator, Exercise Physiologist, Administration, Training and Environment team and Perth based H&S team.
- Participate in emergency response team as a ERT member including participation in training, when time permits, in order to understand the roles fulfilled during emergency response.
- Manage the medical facilities, fleet and assets onsite to ensure a timely, coordinated, and professional response.
- Conduct regular training and coaching on the use of defibrillators and other first aid equipment and medical related issues to individuals.
- Assist with developing and maintaining an audit function to measure, report and recommend with regards to health and medical management and best practice.
- Assist the H&S Manager or nominated delegate to ensure that all health and medical reporting requirements meet corporate requirements and are completed and distributed in a timely manner.
- Assist the H&S Manager or nominated delegate with analysis and interpretation of health data.
- Work with broader NSR Health and Emergency Management team to support standardisation of processes, procedures and equipment.
- Support delivery of health and safety inductions and associated training programs as required adhoc.
- Support improvement projects and the H&S Strategy onsite delivery.
- Actively promote and monitor for compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
- Use of INX Systems, input data, produce reports with a high level of attention to detail.
- Being on call in a fit state at all times and adhering to the Fitness for Work Policy.
- Medical centre management and poison permit compliance requirements
- Escalation of events requiring reporting for LGIRS and or NSR event classifications with H&S Coordinator and Manager in a timely manner
- Supporting completion of components of ERT medicals.
- Promote and adhere to Northern Star methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Other related duties as directed.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
Experience: 3 years experience working in rural and/or remote medical services. Mining industry experience, workers compensation and injury management will be highly regarded.
Knowledge: Sound clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent, with a current unrestricted AHPRA registration essential. ALS1, Drug and Alcohol testing qualification.
Desirable: Health and Safety qualification; Training & Assessing certification; Emergency Response qualifications highly regarded.
