Health and Safety Superintendent

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a HSEC Superintendent to maintain safety and health management systems and processes. This opportunity is offered permanently on an 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth or Busselton  

 

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Act in accordance with the occupational health and safety management system requisites
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership
  • Develop annual Safety Improvement Plans (SIP) incorporating legislative requirements,
  • Maintain risk management systems, inclusive of Critical Risk Management (CRM)
  • Oversee site occupational health & hygiene requirements.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place to enable the application of continuous improvement techniques and tools
  • Provide expert advice and support to line management regarding development and implementation of systems and standards.
  • Ensure statutory reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Liaise with ESO Coordinator to maintain adequate emergency response personnel numbers and competences.
  • Maintain OHS Training Systems in conjunction with SIP.
  • Maintain occupational medical and first aid systems.
  • Ensure injury management procedures are implemented to achieve a safe, early return to work by injured employees.
  • Assist with rehabilitation and Workers Compensation matters.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior Health, Safety and Training role.
  • Proven development, implementation and delivery of health, safety and training management systems.

 

 

Required skills and experience:

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications (or similar) in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • High level understanding for all relevant safety and mining related legislation
  • Demonstrated ability in INX InControl, InFlight, +Process and InTuition management systems;
  • Solid understanding of Injury Management processes and Workers Compensation legislation
  • Significant experience in occupational health and safety, including experience in leadership roles in a mining environment, specifically underground or surface mining operations.
  • Knowledge in the development and implementation of safety programs and recognised safety management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in OHS systems auditing.
  • Experience in site safety management and improvement plan development, implementation and measurement.
  • Formal incident investigation qualifications and extensive experience with leading ICAM level investigations  
  • Strong people management skills to lead and coach diverse teams of 10+
  • Proven ability to deliver results while delivering a high level of customer support.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing change.
  • Experience in developing budgets, forecasts and plans for operating and capital resources

 

 

Preferred:

Demonstrated experience in emergency response coordination.

Recognised Emergency Response qualifications.
