Northern Star Resources currently has a rare senior opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager to join the team at our Thunderbox Operations, working an ongoing 4/3 roster (with occasional 8/6 for SSE coverage) on a permanent & full-time basis.
Reporting to the site General Manager, you will support the business strategy and help drive a ‘safety first‘ culture across the organisation, with a focus on championing best-practice & continuous improvement across your team and ensuring compliance to legislative & regulatory requirements.

- Visibly drive, develop & champion a positive health & safety culture across site, displaying a genuine passion for all facets of health & safety, and a clear commitment to mitigating risk of injury or harm across all NSR operations & personnel.
- Provide continuous support, guidance and direction to employees and contractors for all health & safety requirements.
- Ensure that the team complies with all legislative requirements and continually develop the Safety Management System (SMS) to remain relevant to all Stakeholders.
- Manage the corporate auditing & compliance framework to audit health & safety management systems.
- Embed and further enhance the foundation of the Management Systems to improve overall effectiveness of health & safety leadership across NSR.
- Set and monitor targets and appropriate team key performance indicators to improve health & safety performance, as well as generate team reporting to benchmark performance with analysis of trends.
- Advise the business on improvement opportunities and assist in the development of strategies regarding health & safety initiatives
- Oversee serious incident investigations to ensure adequate quality and remedial actions are appropriate and implemented.
- Proactive involvement with continuous Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) improvement processes.
- Promote and adhere to all health & safety requirements across the Company in compliance with all statutory regulations.

With extensive experience in a similar senior health & safety role within the mining sector, you have demonstrable leadership and people management experience, working on a remote site operation. You will possess a genuine passion and commitment for creating a work environment that prioritises the health and wellbeing of its most important asset, its people. Through your visibility, engagement and active coaching, you will oversee a team who operate with a high level of skill, integrity, drive and output.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience in a similar health & safety leadership role, at a remote mining operation.
- A Tertiary Qualification in Workplace Health & Safety or equivalent, along with a Lead Auditor Qualification.
- Knowledge in the development and implementation of health & safety programs and recognised management systems.
- Demonstrated experience in WHS systems auditing.
- Experience in site health & safety management and improvement plan development, implementation and measurement.
- A thorough understanding & working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Regulations 2022.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to engage & influence, manage change and drive successful outcomes across your remit.
- Possess a strong working knowledge and understanding of risk management processes including Critical Risk Management, Bow Tie Analysis and Management of Change
- Demonstrated experience in incident reporting and investigation preferably ICAM and SRS reporting
- Visibly drive, develop & champion the Company Contractor Management Framework to support a positive health & safety culture and the delivery of applicable statutory obligations and requirements.
- Sound computer literacy across the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as relevant safety management systems.
