Northern Star Resources, driven by our ongoing success in developing exceptional talent, is expanding our technical leadership cohort. We are seeking a Geotechnical Superintendent and a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to shape the next chapter of our Thunderbox operations. These positions are pivotal to ensure the long-term growth of Thunderbox’s Life of Assets.
The Geotechnical Superintendent will operate on 4 days on, 3 days off roster, while the Senior will join us on 8 days on, 6 days off back-to-back roster.

Geotechnical Superintendent
The role provides leadership and direction for the Geotechnical department, ensuring high-quality technical support that enables safe operations, optimal ore recovery and delivery of budget and Life of Assets targets. In addition, the Geotechnical Superintendent is accountable for guiding team capability, monitoring geotechnical performance and compliance, investigating and resolving geotechnical issues, contributing to mine design, driving continuous improvement, managing external contractors/consultants and be a part of the senior leadership team on site.
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
The role delivers geotechnical expertise across all Thunderbox’s operational and project work, including geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments, geotechnical recommendations, incident investigations, and ongoing review and update to the Ground Control Management Plan/s (GCMP). The Senior is also tasked with autonomy to drive business improvement initiatives, ensuring industry-leading geotechnical practices, acting as a subject matter expert to senior leadership, and providing guidance, support, and professional development to Geotechnical Engineers and Graduates.
To thrive in these roles, you’ll need:
Experience
- Solid experience in Geotechnical Engineering and ideally across both Open Pit and Underground operations, including void management, squeezing ground, seismic damage and backfill.
- Experience in a leadership role involving management and mentoring of a large professional teams and external contractors and consultants.
- Computer literacy - Datamine Design Software, Map3D Numerical Modelling Software, Rocscience Software Suite Phase2/3, Dips & Unwedge.
- Exposure to mine auditing and assessment techniques.
- Proficient in mine design and Geotechnical analysis software.
- Ability to influence and make strategic decisions on business level.
Qualifications
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Geology.
- Comp rehensive understanding of industry guidelines for geotechnical considerations (e.g. MOSHAB).
- Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
