Working a 4:3 FIFO roster, the Commercial Manager forms part of the Senior leadership team at the operation. The role is based on site and reports directly to the Site General Manager, while reporting also to the corporate finance team. This role plays a critical part in overseeing and embedding commercial discipline across the operation.
Here’s what awaits you:
- Lead the commercial function of site operations, ensuring alignment with Northern Star’s corporate policies, procedures, and strategic objectives.
- Responsible for ensuring sound commercial arrangements are achieved at operations to reduce and manage costs, along with commercial risks. This includes fostering a culture of commercial prudence and economic decision-making across all site departments, and active engagement with group procurement function.
- Responsible for coordinating and managing accurate financial reporting and forecasting processes for site operations.
- Working closely with site leadership team to develop and implement cost minimisation and commercial strategies and constructively challenging SLT members to optimise outcomes for the operations.
- Deliver and manage the daily and monthly operational reporting suite to track KPIs, monitor and challenge site performance, including cost of production, productivity and operational and capital expenditure.
- Partner with the corporate procurement team to manage contract management, procurement, and commercial governance across the site operations.
- Oversight and management of site capital expenditure, including business case financial evaluation, governance, approvals, and documentation.
- Provide timely and accurate commercial and financial analysis to corporate.
- Drive continuous improvement in the sites commercial practices, procurement outcomes, cost efficiency, and risk management, including oversight and co-ordination of finance system enhancements to meet operational requirements with support from corporate functions.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- Degree Qualified in Commerce, Accounting, Engineering, Law, or related discipline.
- CA/CPA or equivalent
- At Least 8 years of commercial or financial experience in the resources sector, ideally in a site-based leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to lead commercial/finance functions in a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Strong commercial acumen, with an understanding of contracts, cost management, and procurement principles.
- Proven ability to influence and challenge operational teams constructively.
- Experienced in cost analysis, forecasting, and financial performance reporting.
- Highly organised, analytical, and outcome-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced site environment with competing priorities.
- Flexibility to adapt and willingness to drive improved procedures and practices
- Proficient in an ERP system and Microsoft Excel
