Reporting to the Principal – Heritage, the Senior Heritage Advisor plays a key role in ensuring Northern Star’s Aboriginal cultural heritage and Native Title Agreement commitments are effectively implemented across the Company’s Australian operations, with a particular focus on the Kalgoorlie Production Centre. This position operates on a FIFO basis from Perth to Kalgoorlie, following a 4/3 roster.
Here’s what awaits you:
- Support cultural heritage surveys and manage heritage data at the Kalgoorlie Production Centre.
- Engage with Traditional Owner groups to facilitate heritage assessments and survey requests, ensuring compliance with standards, agreements, and legislation.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and Traditional Owners to implement Native Title commitments.
- Provide strategic advice on cultural heritage management, Traditional Owner engagement, and community development.
- Foster long-term, trust-based relationships with Traditional Owners.
- Serve as the senior liaison for day-to-day interactions between the Company and Traditional Owners.
- Ensure Free, Prior and Informed Consent for Company activities.
- Assist in developing management plans and proposals in consultation with Traditional Owner groups.
- Support regulatory and approval submissions through effective stakeholder engagement planning.
- Build and maintain community relationships to achieve social performance objectives.
- Provide direction and support to the Heritage Coordinator – Kalgoorlie.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
Experience:
- 7+ years in community development, cultural heritage, or stakeholder engagement, preferably within the resources sector
- Proven ability to maintain positive relationships in complex and challenging environments, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities
- Strong complex problem-solving skills to deliver solutions across the business
- Discretion and respect working in culturally diverse settings
- Ability to multitask, organise, and prioritise multiple projects under tight deadlines
Qualifications:
- Current unencumbered West Australian ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence.
- Formal qualification in archaeology, anthropology, social performance, social science, communications, or other relevant field preferred
