Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Senior Environmental Advisor reporting to the Environmental Superintendent. This is a residential position based at our KCGM Operations in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, working a 5:2 4:3 roster – 9 hours per day. 

 

You will be supported by experienced leaders and will be responsible for facilitating compliance monitoring & reporting with our legal obligations, implementing project approvals and providing supervision & guidance to the KCGM Environmental team.

 

Here's what awaits you:

 

  • Oversee compliance with all regulatory and company standards, ensuring monitoring and reporting activities are completed on time, in line with requirements.
  • Coordinate technical studies required to support environmental approval applications.
  • Assist with the preparation of environmental approval applications to ensure operational continuity of the sites, as required.
  • Interpret legislation, government guidelines, and approvals to guide site operational teams in maintaining compliance and adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Champion environmental approvals processes and support the implementation of the sites Environmental Management System (EMS), 
  • Analyse, interpret and report on the results of environmental monitoring data and trends.
  • Liaise with key external stakeholders, including Government regulators, neighbouring landholders and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in environmental incident investigations and follow-up on corrective actions with the respective department managers. 
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the team’s objectives, targets and plans.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to the Advisors and share the on-call responsibilities with the team.
  • Participate in external events and community-based activities to support Northern Star’s Community Investment Program, as required.

 

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

 

Experience: Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in the mining/resources industry, experience with GIS, preferably ArcGIS Pro, and other database management programs such as Power BI and SharePoint, excellent understanding of environment/mining legislation and practical experience with environment approvals in WA, strong knowledge of environmental impacts and controls associated with a mining and processing operation, solid understanding of Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) and auditing processes, flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, with the ability to multi-task effectively in a dynamic and outcome focused environment, ability to build collaborative and functional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree majoring in an Environment related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution, current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
