Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Senior Environmental Advisor reporting to the Environmental Superintendent. This is a residential position based at our Kalgoorlie Operations (Kanowna Belle & South Kalgoorlie mine sites) in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, working a 5:2 4:3 roster – 10 hours per day.
You will be supported by an experienced leader and will be responsible for facilitating compliance with our legal obligations, developing environmental approval applications and providing supervision and support to the Kalgoorlie Operations team.
Here’s what awaits you:
- Oversee compliance with all regulatory and company standards, ensuring monitoring and reporting activities are completed on time, in line with requirements.
- Coordinate technical studies required to support environmental approval applications.
- Prepare environmental approval applications to ensure operational continuity of the sites, including Part V Prescribed Premise Licences and Works Approvals, Mining Proposals and Mine Closure Plans, Groundwater Licences, Native Vegetation Clearing Permits and Programmes of Works, as required.
- Interpret legislation, government guidelines, and approvals to guide site operational teams in maintaining compliance and adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Champion environmental approvals processes and support the implementation of the sites Environmental Management System (EMS),
- Analyse, interpret and report on the results of environmental monitoring data and trends.
- Liaise with key external stakeholders, including Government regulators, neighbouring landholders and internal stakeholders.
- Lead, where required, significant environmental incident investigations and follow-up on corrective actions with the respective department managers.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Team’s objectives, targets and plans.
- Share the on-call responsibilities with other team members.
- Participate in external events and community-based activities to support Northern Star’s Community Investment Program.
- Participate in sustainability projects and business improvements.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in the mining/resources industry.
- Bachelor’s Degree majoring in an Environment related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
- Excellent understanding of environment, mining and heritage legislation in WA.
- Strong knowledge of environmental impacts and controls associated with a mining and processing operation.
- Solid understanding of Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) and auditing processes.
- Experience with GIS, preferably ArcGIS Pro, and other database management programs such as Power BI and SharePoint.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, with the ability to multi-task effectively in a dynamic and outcome focused environment.
- Ability to build collaborative and functional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
