We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Geologist to join our Underground Operations team at KCGM in this Kalgoorlie residential position.

 

Based locally in Kalgoorlie, this role will support the delivery of safe, efficient and value-focused underground geology across either KCGM’s Fimiston or Mt Charlotte operations. The successful candidate will work closely with planning, drilling and resource geology teams to maximise ore recovery through accurate geological interpretation, effective grade control, timely communication of ore boundaries and practical support to underground development and stoping activities.

 

The Project Geologist will also be responsible for planning, supervising and interpreting underground drilling programs across key Fimiston and Mt Charlotte mining areas, supporting grade control model updates, improving confidence in orebody definition, and identifying opportunities that contribute to production performance, resource conversion and Life of Mine outcomes.

 

This position is a Kalgoorlie residential role, working an 8:6 11-hour day roster.

 

Here's what awaits you:

  • Drive ounce addition through identification and evaluation of in mine targets from analysis of historical data, mapping reviews, drilling results and observations in current development.
  • Create preliminary assessment models from opportunities and targets identified. Evaluate and plan any additional work required. Monitor progress and ensure these are driven through to completion within a timeframe that compliments the mine plan and maximises ounces and profits produced by the operation.
  • Ensure effective communication of opportunity and exploration targets with relevant stakeholders at all stages to optimise efficiencies with resource geology and mine planning with regards to resource modelling, planning evaluation and production scheduling.
  • Monitor drilling results at a minimum of weekly periods. Identify and assess anomalous results, communicate significance or otherwise in terms of development and drilling and develop appropriate plans in response.
  • Provide technical support to production in mapping, geology modelling, and control of development.

  

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology (minimum degree).
  • Minimum four (4) years’ geology experience in a mining environment and a minimum of two (2) years’ geology experience in either open pit or Underground.
  • Experience with Datamine, Leapfrog, or equivalent programs.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
