Northern Star Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geologist – Open Pit to join our Thunderbox Operations working FIFO ex Perth on 8 days on 6 days off (Tuesday to Tuesday) rotation.

 

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent the Senior Geologist - Operations will be responsible for leading the mine geology team for Open pits at Thunderbox, guiding and mentoring the next graduate/mine geologists, monitoring and managing grade control practices, developing lithological wireframes and implementing an array of new technologies.

 

What you can look forward to:

  • Leading, managing and directing junior members of the team.
  • Ensure that production geological tasks align with daily, weekly, and monthly mining plans
  • Develop and uphold standards for managing geological data, ensuring that all necessary geological and geotechnical information is recorded
  • Perform the monthly mine-to-mill reconciliation process
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of existing systems and processes and identify areas for enhancement
  • Timely management of drilling programs including target generation, drill program design, implementation, and data management.
  • Development of 3D geological models and resource estimations to improve the geological understanding and for accurate grade control definition pre-mining.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

 

Expertise and Accomplishments:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geology.
  • 7+ years’ experience in the mining industry, preferably within a gold mining operation.
  • Experience with mining and geology software packages such as Datamine, Leapfrog and Acquire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sampling, Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC), block modelling, advanced grade estimation techniques, and reconciliation.
  • Leadership experience, positively leading a team, and Contractor Management (analytical assay and drilling).
  • Excellent report writing, presentation skills and ability to influence.
