About our role

 

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mining Shift Supervisor to ensure the safe and productive running a mining crew as outlined by the mine plan under the direction from the mining superintendent at our world-class Thunderbox Operations. This opportunity is offered on a 15:13 (8 days, 7 nights) roster and is permanent job opportunity. 

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

 

  • Supervising and coordinating surface mining activities of workers engaged in surface mining

  • Ensuring continuous open pit production in order to supply site processing plant with ore requirements

  • Providing a concise and informative PSI meeting each shift

  • Ensuring adherence to all statutory requirements and company HSEC standards and procedures

  • Working closely with the safety reps and operators to lead a proactive approach to safety

  • Populating accurate and timely daily production

  • Optimising resources to best achieve an efficient production outcome in line with targets

  • Ongoing feedback and direction to operators with regard to training and career progression, including disciplinary action when required

  • Liaise and plan with drill and blast crews to ensure schedules are achieved

 

Required skills and experience:

 

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a mining environment

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating frontline mining equipment

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Pathway and interest in obtaining a restricted QM ticket of competency

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A high regard to safety
