Northern Star Resources have a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for an Underground Voids Technician to join the Mining - Underground team at the Mt Charlotte operations, residentially based in Kalgoorlie - the Heart of the Goldfields.

 

Mount Charlotte is a historic mine that has been backed with significant investment in recent years, resulting in a long-term exciting future for the growing team of mining specialists leading, operating, and maintaining the mine.

 

This is a residential, Kalgoorlie based position, working a 5/2 4/3 10-hour day roster, with the unique benefit of being less than a 10-minute drive to any front door in Kalgoorlie.

 

The Voids Technician reports to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and their main purpose is to identify void areas to ensure that the hazards associated with remnant mining are managed to ensure work is completed in safe manner.

 

These tasks can include:

 

  • Determination of flagging and voids restrictions.
  • Designing of probe and RC holes for location and definition of historical workings.
  • Conduct, process and triangulate Cavity Auto Laser Surveys (CALS).
  • Analyse data by reconciliation of several data sources to determine the location and nature of underground workings.
  • Ensure that void related hazards are safely managed.
  • Ensure void related designs, information and approvals are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Voids Technician Project in medium to long term voids related tasks as required.
  • Design and install seismic system.
  • Fault finding and liaising with mine electricians and IMS for troubleshooting of the seismic sensors and IMS panels’ components.
  • Installation and data collection, reporting of underground void monitoring instruments including extensometer, stress cell, sloughmeter, TDR etc.

 

Requirements: 

 

Essential

  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy.
  • Proven organisational and planning abilities.
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence, or the ability to obtain.

 

Desired

  • Exposure to Mining Software including; Vulcan Software.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Working at Heights Accreditation.
  • Experience in Underground gold mining an historical mining.
  • Experience in monitoring and instrumentation will be highly valued.
