Northern Star Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Project Geologist - Operations to join our residential Kalgoorlie Operations. 

 

Be a Rock Star at the KCGM Underground Operations

 

Just a few minutes from home, this position will see the successful candidate supervise the delivery of the maximum ore grade to the Processing Plant, through accurate identification of the mineralisation, optimal ore classification and supervision of extraction (to minimise dilution).

The Project Mine Geologist will also be responsible for the design and execution of drill programs and geological interpretation to add value to existing resources, locating the next viable ore bodies, and extending the Life of Mine.

 

This position is a Kalgoorlie residential role, working a family friendly 8:6 11-hour day roster.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act in a team leader type role to provide mentoring, coaching and support, to ensure ongoing professional development and the achievement of a positive workplace culture that reflects NSR’s Values.
  • Provide training and mentorship for Mine Geologists, Graduates and geology technicians, ensuring their knowledge base increases and provides succession planning for the Grade Control area.
  • Communicate on a daily basis with all production teams, and delegate daily tasks to ensure daily production plans can be delivered.
  • Coordinate the design, schedule and oversee drilling programs to ensure the provision of timely and accurate data for analysis. Ensure data quality and interpretation, and provide recommendations for future work programs on the basis of results.
  • Supervise drill contractors, demanding adherence to all relevant environmental, safety and security measures.
  • Oversee the analysis, interpretation and modelling of geological data. Contribute to mine planning reviews to communicate relevant geological data.
  • Facilitate the ore extraction process to ensure the mine plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore dilution and maximise recovery.
  • Contribute to geological mapping and the instruction of Mine Geologists in producing good quality geological maps. This will also entail updating geological and ore wireframes in Leapfrog as well as assist with month end reporting.

 

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology (minimum degree).
  • Minimum four (4) years’ geology experience in a mining environment.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ geology experience in either open pit or Underground.
  • Experience with Datamine, Leapfrog, or equivalent programs.
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
