The main purpose of this Metallurgist position is to provide ongoing metallurgical performance management of the assigned sections of the KCGM Processing Department to ensure metallurgical performance is optimised and opportunities for process improvements are identified and implemented effectively at both Fimiston and Gidji processing plants.
KCGM is seeking metallurgists of various experience levels to assist in flotation improvement projects.
This may lead to permanent work at KCGM / other Northern Star operations.
*** This is a 6 month fixed term contract, working an 8/6 (11 hour) roster.
*** KCGM is a residential site, however FIFO from Perth may be considered for the right candidate.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Provide metallurgical and processing operations advice
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with production and maintenance personnel to ensure a team-based approach to achieving all objectives
- Conduct plant investigations and improvement projects to improve recovery, increase throughput and reduce cost as required
- Maintains the metallurgical accounting system, and generates daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly balances as required, in accordance with the company Metal Accounting Standard
- Monitor plant performance by analysing operational/assay data and set up systems to provide performance trends that can be used to identify areas and opportunities to improve plant performance
- Identify important parameters and improvement projects across value chain including working closely with peers in mining and geology teams as part of the mine-to-mill approach
- Assist in developing the budget physicals and cost targets for the annual budget
- Optimising processing plant comprises of (but not limited to) crushing-grinding circuit, flotation circuit, gravity circuit (Knelson and Acacia), Ultra Fine Grinding (UFG), CIL circuit and elution
- Assists the Senior Metallurgist and Metallurgical Superintendent to design and complete metallurgical test work as required
Required skills and experience:
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in mineral processing or related industries
- Experience in gold processing plant with flotation circuits preferred
- A demonstrated ability to understand and utilise process control applications to improve process metallurgy.
- Prior experience with PI Historian and statistical analysis preferred.
- Working knowledge of metallurgical test workflow sheets and procedures.
- Ability to understand and develop plant Piping & Instrumentation Drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to identify potential problems and react in a timely manner with a proven solution.
- Excellent process analysis and technical problem-solving skills.
- High level of computer skills, particularly Excel.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven time management, planning and organisational skills.
- A tertiary degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
- Current Unencumbered Western Australian "C" Class Drivers Licence
